Sustainable House of the Future Runs on Spinach

The winning entry to the Cradle to Cradle C2C Home Competition is an incredible single family dwelling by Matthew Coates and Tim Meldrum that goes right to the core fundamentals of the Cradle to Cradle principles. Not only does the building run a photosynthetic and phototropic skin made with spinach protein, but it also produces more energy than a single family’s needs, allowing the excess to be distributed to neighbors. This radical shift, from centralized energy systems today, fosters community interdependence as neighbors benefit from the resources of others.

I’m not to keen on distributed energy generation is the cost/watt is less than that of centralized generation stations. This needn’t be the case. You could, for example, put a Sterling Energy dish on your roof and be as efficient as a solar generation plant that simply uses many of them.

There is something to be said for the added redundancy of distributed systems, but that should be incorporated in a long-term cost/benefit analysis.

The fellow students in my school called QIRAAT, Veenoth and Pooja are very sorry for the inconveniece. I assure you that these immature children will not do this sort of behaviour again. Please do not take any action towards this incident. Again i am deeply sorry.
    Yours sincerely,
Hannah ( professor of bioscience )

Hannah i am glad you are responsible but there is one flaw in you message. you state- ‘The fellow students in my school called QIRAAT, Veenoth and Pooja’ yet you end with ‘Hannah ( professor of bioscience )’ may i ask how are you the professor if you are a student? i found this rather alarming as this shows that you are not who you say you are. this matter will be dealt with.

Good evening,My fathers invention,The spianch factory, was an amazing invention.I thoguht it was rather facsinating.Howeve I am certainly not pleased with the Mockary the following students QiIRAT,VEENTOHand POOJA had made. Ummm, I am a student of architcture and am very intrigued by the idea of a biofilm instead of a solar panel.
I have read somewhere that the energy consumed by a solar panel is more than what it will produce in its lifetime, thus making me beleive that your project is better suited for the job.

I still can’t help feeling a little vague about the entire theory, and feel that if such is possible, then why don’t the major corporations bag the opportunity?
I would request you to please enlighten me with as vividity as possible. Maybe some details would help.
    Thank You

I am extremely curious as to how photosynthesis and phototropism can produce power of a sort and in quantity enough to suit the needs of a family actually LIVING in the house. And what is the transmission media used to “share with nieghbors”? An intriguing idea but this little blurb on it is VERY short on facts and practical information. I do hope it works.

That would be amazing! I keep on seeing more and more of these high tech future homes popping up on the internet with all these great new technologies incorporated into them. The only problem is that I don’t see anyone actually building them.
